PGA TOUR Drone AR
Drone AR puts live drone video and real-time augmented-reality graphics on the same shot: ball flight, apex, distance and roll, drawn from ShotLink and TrackMan data. It has been part of PGA TOUR broadcasts since 2024.
The PGA TOUR developed it with six partners: the PGA TOUR, Bolt6, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, Virtual Eye and Kaze Aerial Production.
For the 2024 FedExCup Playoffs and Presidents Cup, Kaze provided the drone for the live drone tracer, with AR from the moving drone from the BMW Championship on. At the 2025 PGA Championship on CBS, a smaller Raptor system flew AR and shot tracing next to our primary live drone. At THE PLAYERS in 2026, we handled the AR drones.
In 2025 Drone AR won the Sports Emmy's George Wensel Technical Achievement Award.
- DroneLive camera on the aircraft
- TruckBolt6 ingests the drone camera and encodes it to HEVC
- CloudEach frame is processed in AWS against ShotLink and LiDAR course data, about 60 ms
- TruckGraphics come back on the shot, about 250 ms round trip
